Wayne Walker Home
An HCI Ministry
[Visit the Hogar de Ninos website available in English,
Spanish and German]
The Wayne Walker Memorial
Hogar de Ninos opened at the end of 1998 after years of planning and mostly volunteer
construction. Located in Los Chacos, Bolivia, the home was built in partnership with
the First Baptist Church of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. A unique feature of this home is
that it was built in conjunction with an operating dairy farm to allow it to be a self
supporting operation. HCI hopes to use this project as a model for other homes in
the future.
In addition to the children's home, a chapel was built on the property
which allowed the formation of a new community church. Since the opening of the
home, other improvements have been made such as an additional well, an additional house
and improvement of the dairy stock, which is already producing income for the home.
More importantly, the home is already filling with abandoned, homeless
children and has received a positive report from the local government's social welfare
agency.
The administration of
the home has been turned over to a Bolivian Board of Directors under the auspices of the
First Baptist Church of Santa Cruz. For additional information about the home, read
the article on the Wayne Walker Home in the
Winter 1998 REALIZE found under News.
